Personality:
For most cases, Duzell believes that the ends justify the means. After dying in his fight against Phelios, he was reincarnated as a kyawl (a feline that looks like a cat) by agreeing to a pact of vengeance. An innocent bystander was killed in the process, and he showed no remorse. When it comes to concepts like mercy, he considers that to be a sign of weakness. He has offered to turn a few humans into vampires, and feels confused when they refuse. He doesn’t understand why they would rather die than be immortal and powerful. Duzell will feign empathy to get what he wants out of a situation, but he doesn’t really care to understand people. It isn’t easy to get close to, let alone befriend, Duzell. Then again, he isn’t interested in making friends either. He even outwardly refuses to acknowledge Ishtar as a friend, despite the obvious fact that she is the closest person to him.

In canon, even though vampires are commonly portrayed as evil, they are also shown to be capable of having the same kind and gentle emotions as humans, such as love and compassion, though it doesn’t happen often. Aside from arrogance, anger would likely be the most intense emotion Duzell ever shows. And if that happens, be prepared to die, or at the very least, get harmed in some way. By default, he comes off as cold and disinterested, because he doesn’t need anyone knowing how he really feels or thinks about the situation. He can also be playful and flirtatious, depending on the specific audience, which is surprising to see from such a serious vampire. Whenever he feels lazy or doesn’t want to be bothered, he can be found lounging around somewhere in his cat form.

Duzell is very intelligent, which is a requirement for someone to pursue goals of his magnitude. He also has hundreds and hundreds of years of fighting experience, so he definitely wouldn’t be easy to defeat. He dies twice in canon, both times through the “La Gamme” holy spell, which kills both the caster and the target. The second time, he willingly casts it on Lassen, Ishtar’s cousin, who is the final villain of the series. Like his first death, he is expected to be reincarnated, after an indeterminate amount of time. Even after reaching that level of self-sacrifice, he will still be showing traits of selfishness. In the beginning, when his powers weren’t at their full capacity, he enjoyed stringing people along, with some help from Ishtar. He would definitely try to make the most of every situation – for himself, of course.

This arrogant vampire doesn’t like to follow authority. He would much rather collect minions and have them do his dirty work. That being said, his minions still have to prove to be somewhat useful to him. It would be a real hassle to have to keep replacing tools over and over. He demands loyalty from his followers, but won’t necessary reciprocate. Rishas, a powerful magician that served Duzell in the past, was completely devoted to the vampire king, while Duzell regarded him only as a useful puppet. Despite his arrogance, he will grudgingly give credit where it’s due, and if someone actually manages to impress him, that would be a sight to behold. He would at least show a little bit of consideration toward someone that is worthy of his time. Although with Duzell, his definition of being “considerate” is very different from most people.

By the end of the series, Duzell has notably changed. He stays behind in Pheliosta to protect the citizens at Ishtar’s request, and even learns how to be self-sacrificial, after falling in love with the princess. Lailis, the reincarnation of Rishas, helps him realize those feelings, and is surprised that Duzell, of all vampires, can form this deep attachment period, let alone to a human. Generally, he still finds humans to be annoying and would rather use them than make friendly. After being betrayed by Lassen’s wenches in Volume 15, Duzell feels wary of trusting his pawns, not that he had much regard for them in the first place. While he has no problems with killing anyone that gets on his nerves, he would listen to Ishtar’s pleas of sparing some people – but only if she is being reasonable. That won’t, however, stop him from wanting to feast on humans.

Abilities:
Swordsmanship
Although Duzell is much more powerful with magic, he also excels at swordsmanship. While his powers were still coming back, he made it very far in the tournament in La Naan with just a sword and all his years of battle experience. If his magic was ever sealed, it won’t take away his threat as a warrior. Physically, Duzell has inhuman speed, strength, and a heightened sense of smell. He can tell other vampires apart from regular humans.

Magic
As mentioned above, Duzell is very skilled in magical abilities. He can use black magic, which are destructive elemental spells, like fire, ice, lightning, earth, etc. As a vampire, he can use blood magic, spells that are typically cast by vampires, and become more powerful with larger amounts of blood. Even though vampires are weak against it, Duzell can actually use holy magic. In canon, he has only showcased it once, because his other abilities were sealed at the time. He would only use holy magic as a last resort. Uncategorized: he can teleport to places, and shapeshift into other people – both men and women – after biting them and getting a taste of their blood. The truth spell is deadly in Duzell’s hands, because he can force affected people to tell the truth.
